Gary Mayne is a resident of Washington and a Colorado native. From big bands to salsa bands, to rock bands, to the symphonic stage, Gary has performed and recorded with a diverse array of ensembles around the United States and the world. He is an active performer, educator, clinician, and adjudicator who loves working with students of all ages from all walks of life.
As a symphonic musician, Gary has performed with the Colorado Symphony, the Colorado Music Festival Orchestra, the Greeley Philharmonic Orchestra, the Wyoming Symphony and the Colorado Springs Philharmonic. He also performs as a member of the SPARK Brass Quintet from Pennsylvania.
Since 2008 Gary has been the trombonist with Big Head Todd and the Monsters and has performed and recorded with them in Colorado, Florida, and the Caribbean.
As a big band performer he has performed and recorded regularly with groups such as the 9th and Lincoln Orchestra, the Steve Owen Big Band, David Caffey Jazz Orchestra, Socrates Garcia Jazz Orchestra, The Fred Hess Big Band, The Steve Lippia Big Band, the Dan Gailey Jazz Orchestra, the Colorado Jazz Orchestra, The Ben Markley Big Band the H2 Big Band, the Fred Hess Big Band, the Glenn Miller Orchestra, the Tommy Dorsey Orchestra, and many more!
With a great passion for Latin American music, Gary has performed and recorded extensively with La Tremenda, Kizumba, Ceniza, La Candela, Quemando, Conjunto Colores, and the Arturo Sandoval Mambo Big Band. He has performed with such notable singers as Luisito Carrion, Jerry Rivera, Edgar Joel, Willie Gonzalez, Charlie Cruz, and Domingo Quinones. Gary led his own Salsa Band in Washington D.C. called SalsAmerica!
Gary has a BME from the University of Northern Colorado and has studied trombone with Dr. Nat Wickham and has MA in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Trinity Washington University in Washington, DC. Gary works with adolescents in a middle school setting and has a private therapy practice for adults in Tacoma, WA.
